Protecting your privacy

On 21st December 2001, new privacy laws were introduced. These laws govern the way personal information is used and stored by companies Jewel Finance Pty Ltd (“Jewel”) have adopted these practice principles to protect your privacy.
This document briefly explains the types of personal information we may keep and how we may use that information.

What information does “Jewel” hold?

The information “Jewel” holds in relation to your transaction includes all information and supporting documentation provided by you in the course of your enquiry.
We may hold or collect information in relation to your transaction from parties pursuant to the privacy act, for example a person may not only provide us with information on themselves for the purpose of obtaining our services but also on other people who they represent. We may also obtain personal information from past lenders, insurers, witnesses to claims, health care workers and publicly available sources.

How we use and disclose personal information

We have a duty to maintain the confidentiality of our clients’ affairs, including personal information. Our duty of confidentiality applies except where discourse of your personal information is with your consent or compelled by law.

What obligations does “Jewel” have in relation to this information?

“Jewel” will take the necessary measures to ensure that all personal information held is protected against misuse and loss and from unauthorised access.
Access to personal information will be restricted to only those employees or agents who require access to this information in order to fulfil our service obligations to you.
We do not use or disclose personal information for any purpose that is unrelated to our services and that you would not reasonably expect (except with your consent or as required by law).
Any information collected by “Jewel” will be held in a secure environment. “Jewel” may be required by law to retain personal information about you for a period of time after our services to you have ceased. In this event we will ensure that upon expiry of this period, all personal information will be securely destroyed.
You have a right to request a copy of your personal information held by “Jewel” about you. “Jewel”reserves the right to charge a reasonable cost for this service should you require this information.
